Author's Chair

Each day the students get to share their writing with the rest of the students. It's a wonderful time in our class where we get to hear what the students write and the students give them feedback to the writer about aspects of the writing they like or give suggestions for improvement. Here is Owen reading. You might need to turn up the volume to hear him. It's such a special moment for him and the other students.

Egg Carton Math

Here is an image if the egg carton. Students had to find out how many eggs it held. The only information they had was that there were 5 slots in every row and only 6 rows.

Videos for Hot and Cold Temperature Unit

I found these great videos for the Penguin/Hot and Cold Temperature unit coming up next week. Watch and enjoy them with your children. We'll be learning about the science of hot and cold temperatures, measuring temperature, and learning how humans and animals stay insulated. It's going to be a fun time.
If you have any tin cans you would like to donate to the classroom, I would love to have them as well as different types of material. Such as cotton, wool, plastic, quilting, polyester, etc.

Rescheduled Events & Upcoming Events

Hi Parents,
Due to busses being cancelled today our Pizza Day was rescheduled for Feb. 1st. I am assuming the pizza your child ordered will be delivered on this day and for those who didn't order, there may be orders available. Check the school News Letter for answers to some of your questions.
Unfortunately, PJ Day was also cancelled. It may be rescheduled, wait for information on this as well.

My class will be celebrating Family Literacy Day early. I've chosen Jan. 24th. Kids will wear PJ's (Hooray!!!), bring blankets, and favourite books to read and build forts in the afternoon and read inside of them. It's going to be a lot of fun.

On Friday, Jan. 25th, the school Book Swap will be taking place. If you've got books your child doesn't read anymore bring them in before Thursday, Jan 24th so they can be swapped out on the 25th. If 5 books are brought your child will get 5 new books to read. It's a wonderful way we celebrate Family Literacy at our school and recycle used books. I'm even looking forward to recycling some of my books.

Enjoy your weekend and we'll see you on Monday.
P.S. The spelling test will be given Monday.

Penguin Knowledge

Use the Wallwisher to tell everything you know about Penguins. Think about the animal, where it lives, what's special about it, how does it eat, etc. These are just a few ideas.
